Google before justice for non -compliance with data confidentiality – RTS.CH

Google’s trial for violation of privacy began on Monday in the United States. The American company is accused of having collected personal data from millions of users and users without their consent.

Failure to comply with a confidentiality parameter is at the heart of this case which started in 2020. Once activated on mobile devices, this parameter allowed Google to collect data on user activities, such as research carried out on internet browsers in particular.

It also made it possible to record information via third -party applications and devices that use Google services.

Conditions deemed too vague

Users could deactivate this parameter, which many people have done, thinking of preventing tracing. However, Google is accused of having continued to collect data without their knowledge despite the deactivation of the parameter.

The web giant denies it and returns to the conditions of use, which detailed its practice. But according to the complainants, the American company voluntarily employed vague terms, lending to confusion in terms of data collection.

The financial repercussions of this case could be colossal for Google, with damages amounting to hundreds of millions, even billions of dollars.
