A few days ago, we learned that Microsoft had decided to set up a surprise strategy to try to rush its users of Windows 10, as the end of its support on October 14. Today, a first concrete overview of this method to be able to stay a few more months on the operating system is showed.
Some conditions and a few clicks are enough to stay on Windows 10
As noted by the Windows Latest site, Microsoft began to deploy with certain Windows Insiders testers a button allowing to extend the support for security updates until at least October 13, 2026 via the Extended Security Updates (ESU) system. Very discreet in the column to the right of the Windows Update section of Windows 10 settings (or under the button to check the updates on certain installations), this “Enroll Now” button will arrive in the next public.
Click on this button, wherever it is ultimately after Microsoft’s tests, opens a window. In it is notably recalled that one of the following three conditions must be respected in order to be able to take advantage of this extension of at least one year:
- Having connected your PC to a Microsoft account
- Have 1000 points within the Microsoft Rewards program
- Pay $ 30 to be able to continue using Windows 10 with a local account
No need to fulfill the migration eligibility conditions to Windows 11. If you meet at least one of the above conditions, then just a few clicks to see a message showing that you will receive the security updates for another year after the end of the official support. It remains to be seen if Microsoft will offer a new extension after it.
If you have several PCs, it is possible to take advantage of several ESU on the same Microsoft account.
