His rejected appeal, a trial in sight?

A possible trial for corruption? The recourse of the current Minister of Culture against the Col Financial National Public Prosecutor’s Office (PNF) claiming that it be tried for corruption with the former boss of Renault, Carlos Ghosn was rejected Thursday by the Paris Court of Appeal. “We are going to offer Rachida Dati to appeal (in the cassation) of this decision,” said Olivier Pardon, one of the lawyers of the former Keeper of the Seals, after the deliberation. After this rejection, it is up to the investigating judges to order or not a trial against Rachida Dati and Carlos Ghosn. They both dispute the accusations.

In November 2024, the PNF had asked for the referral to the Rachida Dati Criminal Court for “corruption and passive influence traffic by person invested with a public elective mandate within an international organization” namely the European Parliament, as well as for “concealment of abuse of power and breach of trust”. Also, he had claimed a trial against Carlos Ghosn, the former boss of Renault, who has lived in Lebanon and has been the subject of an international arrest warrant since 2023 in this case, for “abuse of power by business manager, breach of trust, corruption and active influence traffic”.

The former Keeper of the Seals faces justice because of his advisory services to the former CEO of the Renault-Nissan Alliance, Carlos Ghosn. She would have received 900,000 euros in fees between 2010 and 2012 when she was a lawyer and European deputy. At the end of July 2021, she was indicted in the context of this case. This sum represents fees paid to him by the Dutch subsidiary of Renault-Nissan, for its advisory activities with the former CEO of the Renault-Nissan Alliance, Carlos Ghosn. Since 2019, justice has been trying to find out if Rachida Dati’s income corresponds to determined activities or if it is a job of complacency that could have masked lobbying activities, which are prohibited for European deputies.
