Belgium was crowned European female basketball champion for the second time in a row on Sunday in Piraeus, Athens, Greece, becoming only the third country to keep its European crown.
The Belgian Cats beat Spain 65-67 in the final to add a fourth medal to the Euro to his record, in five editions, after gold two years ago in Ljubljana in the wake of bronze in 2017 and 2021. Belgium also won a direct ticket for the 2026 World Cup in Berlin.
The Belgians thus align 12 victories in a row to the Euro to add a 2nd European title to their counter (like France, in 2001 and 2009), immediately.
Apart from the hegemony displayed by the USSR from 1960 to 1991, only Spain managed to keep its European title, crowned in 2017 and 2019. It remains four times European champion after its successes in 2013 and 1993.
