- The Hans-Wilsdorf Foundation could acquire the RTS tower in Geneva.
- RTS will remain the main tenant of the building.
- Other media will settle there soon.
The question had remained unanswered since the announcement of Departure of the “Info” pole From RTS for shields: what was happening to the RTS tower in Geneva? This Tuesday, the canton, the SSR (parent company of the RTS) and the Fondation Hans-Wilsdorf indicate that they have reached an agreement in principle. After a phase of negotiations, the building should be sold to the private institution, which wishes to make it “a place of convergence between public and private media, research and citizen initiatives”.
In the event of the culmination of the discussions, the SSR will sell the tower to the Hans-Wilsdorf Foundation, which will entrust its management to a Swiss private law foundation. The state has left for these discussions as owner of the land granting the owner of the building.
Other media will settle there
A sale would not mean the full departure of the public service media. The RTS would remain the main tenant of the place, while making savings on its housing stock to compensate for the drop in the fee.
The Hans-Wilsdorf Foundation adds that the premises will welcome other media companies that will soon announce their arrival. A branch of the Media Forward Fund and the Media and Philanthropy Initiative (IMP) of the University of Geneva will also find their place. The Romand daily “Le Temps”, currently located in the Geneva district of Bouchet, will also move in the tower.
The question of the use of the premises left soon vacant had already posed a problem. In 2023, the Geneva state and the RTS had almost surrendered to the court followinga disagreement On the rental of a floor to a multinational.
Development follows.
