Statistics Canada indicates Tuesday that income from the film industry progressed in 2024, without reaching its heights before the pandemic.
Every two years, the organization publishes data on the state of cinemas.
Its report for 2024 indicates that operating income quoted at $ 1.6 billion last year, an increase of 12 % compared to 2022.
According to Statistics Canada, this marks a recovery after the Restrictions linked to COVVI-19, but income is still 13.1 % lower than $ 1.9 billion recorded in 2018.
The frequentation of cinemas has also stagnated, specifies the organization, being around two thirds of the levels observed six years earlier.
The average price of a ticket reached $ 12.54 in 2024, an increase of 5.5 % compared to 2022 and 31.9 % compared to 2020.
Entrance fees represent more than half of total sales, followed by food and drinks sales, which count for 38.0 %.
