Gruyère and Fondue in Pristina
Nefail Maliqi, editor -in -chief of the newspaper Lecanton27.ch, tells a happy meeting made in Pristina, capital of Kosovo.
In Kosovo, I found a “piece” of Switzerland in the shop and the cheese restaurant Cheese Bar. The Geneva chef Dominique Guéritey is at the origin of this project. So Kosovo is gradually becoming on the 27the Canton of Switzerland? Switzerland was among the first countries to recognize the independence of the Kosovo Republic on February 27, 2008. The Swiss Embassy in Kosovo was opened on March 28, 2008.
Currently, around 700 Swiss live and work in Kosovo, including the staff of the Swiss Embassy and Swisscoy troops, reports the Swiss Albanian language newspaper LeCanton27.ch. For Dominique Guéritey, there is work in Kosovo, of course, for those who want to work, you just have to have will and love for the country and for the state!
Over the past two decades, hundreds of foreign businessmen, more than ten Swiss, have invested in Kosovo. Dominique Guéritey and his partner Léonore are. This couple opened their own cheese boutique, attached to a restaurant with a beautiful terrace. It is therefore the first store and restaurant in Kosovo with Swiss cheese, but not just Swiss. There are also cheese from many other European countries including France, Italy, Denmark, etc. Dominique Guéritey, owner of the cheese dairy, tells how he and his partner started their activity and how the idea came to them: “We inaugurated the cheese dairy on December 14, 2024. The idea came to import cheese into Kosovo, because we like to eat it and we could not find it.” As they say, “you are never better served than by yourself”. Now raclette and fondue are also eaten in Pristina, the capital. Mr. Guéritey, proudly speaking of his work in their factory, claims to be able to offer many references of cheeses … from around the world. “Here, in our only store in Pristina, we have more than a hundred types of fresh cheese available, mainly from Switzerland, France, Italy, England and also all of Europe.”
According to the couple Dominique and Leonora, owners, there are many customers. These are not only Kosovars or Swiss immigrants who live and work here, or those who come as tourists, but also from the Albanian diaspora and many other foreigners from all over the world, since Kosovo is known as an international center, if we consider the great presence of KFOR, embassies and other European and global missions.
