Between April and June, the number of companies’ bankruptcies increased by 26.6% compared to the same period of the previous year. The construction and catering sectors are particularly concerned.

With 444 openings in bankruptcy procedures during the period under review, construction is the most affected branch, followed by catering (327) and retail (223), indicates the financial information company CRIF in its periodic study published on Wednesday.
The highest increases in percentage were found in the catering (+55%), IT services (+43.8%), as well as in the field of building maintenance, development of gardens and green spaces (+40.9%).
By region, the cantons of Saint-Gall, Solure and Basel-Ville have recorded the greatest number of bankruptcies. Conversely, balance sheet deposits have decreased in the cantons of Basel-Campagne, Glaris, Obwald and Appenzell Rhodes-Ettex.
In addition, business creations have undergone a slowdown, according to the CRIF study. In the second quarter, 13,828 new companies were created in Switzerland, a slight increase of 1.3% compared to the same period of the previous year.
The cantons having recorded the most new inscriptions are Zurich (2592), Vaud (1241) and Geneva (1160). While Zurich posted solid growth of 5.5%, business creations fell 13.4% in the canton of Vaud. By sector, business creations were the most numerous in retail (1112), company advice (1070) and real estate (1009).
At the same time, there is a marked increase in radiation. Between April and June, 9,257 companies were scratched from the commercial register, which represents an increase of 12.2%.
