Confirmed leak
The first French reactor of this power had indeed been stopped in mid-June as part of the tests commissioning of the reactor which imposes variations of important and numerous powers.
“This judgment allows the realization of operations of settings in the machine room, on a non -nuclear part of the installations”, then detailed EDF.
But finally, after these tests, the 57th tricolor reactor could not restart.
We must carry out investigations and settings on a protective valve of the main primary circuit.
The result of these analyzes fell. They confirm the presence of a leak on one of the valves.
EDF must now compensate in this sensitive area of ​​the nuclear reactor.
As a reminder, the primary circuit is the set of pipes which allows to cool the heart of the reactor and generate the steam to activate the turbine.
We will intervene on certain parts of the three valves of the circuit and do machining. This is a subject that we are monitoring and for which we take into account the return of experience internationally, so as to allow mechanized work.
Full power at the end of summer
Flamanville EPR should therefore restart with Six weeks late on the calendar.
On the other hand, the consequences will be zero on the deadline of full power. “We maintain our goal of reaching 100 % power, by the end of summer”assures EDF. As for the design, it is not at all challenged either.
The criteria were not in accordance with those expected, but that does not question neither the conception nor the objectives.
Before this stop, the reactor had reached a peak of 60 % of its capacity. Next landing, 80 %. To cross it, EDF must then obtain an ASNR authorization.
