UVA, what do you really know UVB … The different UV rays

UV radiation can be divided into 3 main categories: UVA, UVB and UVC. But what do these letters mean?

  • UVA: More than 75% of UV rays are made up of UVA rays. These are long rays, which penetrate deeper into the skin and are therefore quite dangerous.
  • UVB: They touch the skin to the epidermis. These rays are at the origin of the immediate pigmentation of the skin (namely tanning). They can cause sunburn, redness and, in case of overexposure, skin cancers.
  • UVC: These are the most harmful rays. Their energy is so powerful that it has a power of alteration of biological molecules. Fortunately, they are 100% absorbed by ozone.
