Posting as director of the Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ) since 2021, Denis Turcotte will receive a salary increase of $ 36,793, bringing his annual salary to $ 282,075.
The General Directorate of Quebec believes that “growing complexity” and the “many issues generated by emerging crime within the territory of Quebec City” requires an adjustment “of Mr. Turcotte’s commitment contract as director of the Quebec City Police Service”, details a decision -making summary made public by the municipal administration.
In its most recent assessment, unveiled last May, the SPVQ reports an increase of 4.28 % of the calls housed in 911 between 2023 and 2024.
The repercussions of the conflict between the Hells Angels and the Blood Family Mafia group for the control of the narcotics market continue to be felt in the territory. While sexual offenses increased 12.39 % in 2024, the number of crimes related to drug trafficking jumped 34.7 % during the same period, reveal the data.
The merchant administration has also injected an additional 6 million in its budget to inflate the rows of the police. From 2025 and until 2026, some 101 police officers will join the SPVQ. The measure aims to cope with the growing “security challenges” in the territory.
