The canton of Geneva and five of the municipalities welcoming the area of the area on their territory want to strengthen the preservation of the valley, a space marked by 11 km of watercourses. A commitment charter was signed last May. The agreement formalizes a shared vision and concerted actions for ten years.
(Keystone-ATS) The area of the area stretches from the French border to the city of Geneva. “This region is crucial for the canton and brings together countless challenges in a context of urban development and demographic growth: agriculture, landscape, nature, water, biodiversity, leisure activities”, wrote the State of Geneva on Thursday in a press release. The five municipalities concerned are Bernex, Confignon, Lancy, Onex and Perly-Certoux.
Created in 2021, the governance of the Vallon of the area made it possible to respond to the requests of associations about the pressures suffered by the watercourse and its surroundings, in particular in the context of the new Cherpines district. It also opened the field of reflections on the conciliation of different uses of the perimeter, explains the canton.
“This collaboration has made it possible to develop an guiding image taking into account the challenges of the territory: a common vision to guide developments and actions in the area of the area. The guidance image validated in May 2025 prioritizes, coordinates and implements 39 measures and actions whose funding is provided on a case-by-case basis by one or more of the bodies concerned, ”he specifies.
“To strengthen this dynamic and maintain this active governance”, a commitment charter was signed in May 2025 by the canton and the five municipalities. It sets the principles of labor, common priorities and the way of monitoring actions over time, such as the creation of new trails, facilities for nature and the public or even regular environmental monitoring.
