The other day again, a lady categorically refused to shower before entering the basin. The bathing guard tried to make him hear reason, the exchange has tense … until it is necessary to use the security guard.
“It becomes really complicated. We no longer dare to say anything to people without them getting angry,” sighs Patrick Mathez, the head of the Center de la Blancherie, who describes more and more regular situations with users of the open -air pool of Delémont.
Detritus
It’s not just that. Fat tracks, pizza boxes, cookie papers, cans, cigarette butts and other detritus regularly litter the lawn when the closure time approaches. “People tell employees that it is up to them to clean, that after all, they are paid for that.”
The manager does not hide that the last week was trying for his team, with a recorded record for the month of June (33,515 entries recorded against 29,515 in 2023). “I hear the staff reporting all kinds of cases without having a solution to give them. It is not easy.”
The solution, precisely, could come from a decrease in the maximum capacity of the swimming pool, as it suggested by Claude Schlüchter, in the tribune of the city council on Monday. The idea is only at the stage of reflection, but it is on the table.
Currently, the limit is set at 2000 people inside the swimming pool, a threshold inherited from the pandemic and which has never been reached, even if 2023 was a record year.
“From 1200, we feel that it starts to become complicated. But it still depends on people and groups,” said Patrick Mathez. Another measure put forward by Claude Schlüchter would be to train personnel in conflict management.
Not a bad idea, says Patrick Mathez. “When a swimmer refuses to follow the regulations, we are disarmed. Apart from calling the security agent, what can we do?”
