An unusual intervention mobilized the emergency services this Wednesday, July 2 in Montgailhard, Ariège. Around 8:45 am, a call alerted the firefighters to the presence of white smoke of unknown origin emanating from a hair salon.
Quickly on the scene, the emergency services led recognition inside the establishment. The origin of the phenomenon was identified: a stock of discolving powder, used for hair care, was self-consumed. This rare chemical reaction can occur when the products are stored under unsuitable conditions, especially in the event of high heat or excessive humidity.
The technological risk cell, accompanied by the group leader of the Ariège center, went there to assess the risks. The intervention teams carried out the secure evacuation of the criminal product and the complete ventilation of the premises.
No injuries are to be deplored, and no toxic clearance has been found. On the other hand, the SDIS 09 specifies that “the fair will remain closed to the cleaning of the latter by a specialized company”.
