The mystery surrounding the disappearance of Yves Verville, 67, is now elucidated.
Trois-Rivières police confirmed on Wednesday that the body found on June 7 in the Shawinigan river, in Saint-Mathieu-du-Parc, is indeed that of Mr. Verville, who has been missing since December 21, 2024.
The latter had left his residence in the Cap-de-la-Madeleine sector aboard his vehicle, a red toyota Rav-4, without giving a sign of life thereafter. Investigation procedures had revealed that he had purchased in the Shawinigan sector shortly after his departure.
His vehicle had been found in the parking lot of the Saint-Mathieu-du-Paris recreoforestry park, where important research had been carried out at the time by the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), without success.
It was finally on June 6, 2025 that a hiker discovered a bag containing personal effects near the Shawinigan river. The next day, patrollers of the SQ located a body in the river. The death had been noted on the spot, and the body, obviously in the water for several months, had been evacuated by helicopter.
The formal identification, carried out by the laboratory of judicial sciences and legal medicine, made it possible to confirm that it was indeed Mr. Verville.
The Coroner office will have to determine the causes and circumstances of the death.
