In the winter of 2024, the displacement of two soccer terrains to facilitate the passage of the tram to the campus of the secondary school in Rochebelle in Sainte-Foy had been put on the ice. It was in the wake of the CAQ’s government’s decision to suspend the transportation project structuring time to assess its relevance.
It is a contract that had caused a lot of ink to flow. After months of negotiations between Quebec City and the school service center for discoverers, an agreement had finally been concluded. The city was going to pay $ 17 million by way of advance on the compensation to be paid to launch the work quickly and avoid any service break for students.
The project was put on break in January 2024. The government had decided not to go ahead with the contract as other acquisition and expropriation projects for the term of the mandate entrusted to CDPQ Infra, responsible for taking stock of mobility projects in Quebec.
Same project, new schedule
In a decision -making summary adopted during the last municipal council before the summer break on Wednesday, we learn that the city reactivates the file 18 months later. The contract remains essentially the same. However, the city must resume the tender process to find a new supplier, ready to carry out the work.
The schedule is also jostled. At the start, the site was to end in the fall of 2024. It will take three more years to do the work which consists in moving two soccer terrains to let the tram pass which must cross the campus.
From April 2026, the Center for School Services of Discoverers will launch work to develop a temporary access route from avenue de Rochebelle. In the following months, soccer terrains, parking and basketball field will be built. The whole should be completed before winter.
The redevelopment work will allow the creation of multi -way life areas that did not exist.

The rest of the work scheduled in 2027 concerns, among other things, to the development of a volleyball court, a new access route, improvements to the bus landing and the development of a placet between basketball and volleyball courts.
Work already underway
Work prior to the redevelopment of soccer land had already been carried out before the break on pause imposed by the government of Quebec. Quebec City had allowed the slaughter of trees while the school service center for discoverers had relocated Bell and Videotron installations.
In the field, there will be a reactivation of the site in the coming weeks. The school service center must withdraw a mound to prepare the land for the rest of the work.
