In view of its important attendance, the temporary Sleep-in of Neuchâtel, opened by the city between February 21 and June 30, will reopen at the start of the school year. This emergency accommodation system will now be co -financed by the canton.

(Keystone-ATS) Since its opening, “the Sleep-in set up by the city of Neuchâtel, in the PC shelter in La Rosière, welcomed more than 230 people for more than 1350 nights. With ten beds available, this figure represents an occupancy rate of 104% (the six reserve beds having been regularly occupied), “said the city and the canton of Neuchâtel on Friday.

Closed since Monday, the reception structure will reopen its doors from the start of the school year for an extended period until the end of 2026. “The attendance of the place has been increasing constant since its opening, which shows that the need for a bed for one night is not linked only to the winter period”, can be read in the press release.

Beneficiaries of this type of accommodation are varied, whether they are migrants, foreigners established for a long time in the canton or people of Swiss nationality. The Sleep-in, which welcomed people in acute crisis (family, loss of housing, exclusion of an institution), made it possible to activate the socio-health network in order to find more sustainable help.
