It’s the season, you have to take advantage of it.
It is no longer to prove: a balanced diet, rich in fruits, vegetables and fibers, helps reduce the risk of cancer.
“Whenever you eat, you may have the opportunity to reduce your risk of cancer”, Explains Dr. Michael Dominello, radio-oncologist at the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute (United States). Provided, of course, to make the right choices. According to him, a particular food would be very effective in limiting this risk. He also tries to integrate it into his meals as often as possible, especially at breakfast.
In addition to being rich in vitamin C, this food contains anthocyans, quercetin and catechins. These compounds are among the polyphenols, powerful antioxidants capable of neutralizing free radicals. These unstable molecules can damage cells and DNA, and thus promote the development of cancers. A large meta-analysis has confirmed the anti-cancer properties of this food. “Consumed regularly, polyphenols are powerful anti-inflammatory drugs. However, chronic inflammation, which occurs when the immune system is constantly active because of cancer, is a major factor”, Recalls the oncologist in the columns of the parade media.
Polyphenols are natural compounds synthesized by plants. They are found in a multitude of foods, including vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, herbs and spices. It is therefore particularly advised by doctors to integrate these foods with each meal. For Dr. Dominello, it starts from breakfast. Coffee lover, he adds two tablespoons of cocoa powder, rich in flavonoids. It completes with a handful of blueberries (80 to 100 g), a bay particularly rich in polyphenols, especially when it comes to wild blueberry, the most concentrated. His full season extends from June to September. This is the perfect time to enjoy it.
On the other hand, the doctor insists on the food to avoid to reduce his risk of cancer. Among its recommendations: avoid as much sweet, ultra -formed food as much as possible, limit the consumption of alcohol, animal proteins … It is also very important to practice regular physical activity, not smoking and maintaining a “health weight” to prevent cancer.
