Within the framework of the response against the epidemic of MPOX (variole of the monkey) in Guinea, a joint mission of the National Health Security Agency (ANSS) and the International Organization for Migration (OIM) has been staying in Forécariah since Thursday, July 3, 2025. Objective: Press local authorities in the efforts to prevention and detection of cases, especially in border areas.
Scheduled until July 13, this mission will cover several border localities in the district. On the program: strengthening epidemiological surveillance, organization of vaccination services at entry points, assessment of logistical needs, but also awareness -raising actions with communities, in order to slow down the propagation of the virus.
According to ANSS, Guinea remains exposed to many infectious diseases due to low vaccination coverage. The latest data indicates that only 24 % of children aged 12 to 23 months received all recommended vaccines, a situation conducive to the resurgence of diseases such as measles, diphtheria and, more recently, MPOX.
Through this joint operation, the ANSS and its partners intend to prevent new epidemic outbreaks and strengthen response capacities in the face of persistent health threats.
