Arrest of three new mayors close to the opposition
The mayor of Ankara denounced the arrest of his party’s colleagues on Saturday, who underwent increasing pressure from the Erdogan government.

Three new mayors of main opposition party In Türkiye was arrested on Saturday, denounced the mayor of Ankara, saying that these arrests took place as part of an investigation into accusations of organized crime.

“Our mayor of Adana, Zeydan Karalar, our mayor of Antalya, Muhittin Bocek, and the mayor of Adiyaman, Abdurrahman Tutdere, were arrested,” wrote on X Mansur Yavas, mayor of Ankara, the capital of Turkey.
These arrests are the latestan increasing number of surveys aimed at elected officials from the People’s Republican Party (CHP), the government of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan exercising increasing pressure on the party which won a large victory against its party, the AKP, in the local elections of 2024.

“In a system where the law bends and oscillates according to politics, where justice is applied for one group and ignored for another, nobody should expect that we trust the rule of law or that we believe in justice,” wrote on X mayor of Ankara.
“We will not bow to injustice, anarchy or political operations,” said Mr. Yavas.
