DRA false fire alert aboard a Ryanair plane which was preparing to take off from Spanish Palma de Mallorca airport led to an evacuation by inflatable ramps, during which several passengers were slightly injured, the Irish airline said on Saturday.

The Palma Flight of Mallorca-Manchester on Friday evening “suspended its takeoff due to a false fire alarm. The passengers were landed by the inflatable ramps and brought back to the terminal, “said Ryanair in a statement transmitted to AFP.
“During the landing, a small number of passengers underwent very light injuries (stride ankles, etc.) and the crew requested immediate medical assistance,” added Ryanair, without specifying the number. The local media of Mallorca, like the daily última Hora, speak of 18 injured, all minors, six of whom had to be hospitalized, the others having been treated on the spot.

Aena, the public company that manages Spanish airports, confirmed that “there was an incident on a Ryanair plane last night at Palma de Mallorca airport”. “There was no fire and the incident did not affect the airport operations,” added Aena.
