Xi Jinping did not find the time in his busy agenda to go to Brussels during a bilateral summit between the European Union and China, as the protocol would have liked, after the previous meeting organized in Beijing in December 2023. Never mind! European leaders made the trip to Beijing on Thursday for a reduced meeting for one day instead of two originally planned, in order to be able to exchange with the Chinese number. It was officially a question of celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two powers. But, as a diplomacy, it was mainly a question of spreading disagreements in broad daylight. Only point of convergence worthy of a common press release, the two powers have committed to “Strengthen their efforts to combat climate change”.
