20 years after murdering a teenager, he can get out of prison five times a week

Almost 20 years after the murder of their daughter, Brigitte Serre’s family is “shocked” to learn that her assassin can get out of prison up to five times a week.

On January 25, 2006, the teenager aged 17 at the time was violently murdered with 72 stab wounds by Sébastien Simon when she worked at night in a Montreal service station.

The young man, then aged 18, had been sentenced to life prison without the possibility of parole before 25 years.

But now the Conditional Liberations Commission of Canada (CLCC) has granted the prison to leave prison on supervision up to five times a week to carry out community work, reports Global News.

“I do not know if it is a shock or disbelief,” said the mother-in-law of the deceased, Darlene Ryan.

According to a recent CLCC decision, Simon “made progress in the management of his emotions and his impulsivity”.

The ordinance adds that “such outings are consistent with the last assessment of psychological risks, which suggests that a progressive return to the company is the best option”.

“I no longer really believe in the justice system after that,” said Brigitte Serre, BenoĂ®t, to Global News.

“Life prison is for us, the victims, not for them,” he added.
