Pupils and students are already preparing to return to their school bench, and several surely already dream of the next leave, to the chagrin of their parents who may have to juggle between children and work.
Take out your calendars: here are the important dates to remember for the 2025-2026 school year in Quebec, for those who would already like to book the goalkeeper, ask for help from grandparents or take leave at the office.
Back to school 2025-2026
The primary and secondary schools of the province will start their return to school this year, depending on the establishment.
On the CEGEPS side, the start of the school year will take place slightly earlier, between August 18 and 25, 2025. The universities of the province, on the other hand, will welcome their students around September 2, 2026, although some begin earlier, from August 25.
Holidays
- Labor Day: Monday September 1, 2025
- Grace action: Monday October 13, 2025
- Easter: Friday April 3, 2026 and Monday April 6, 2026
- Patriotic Day: Monday May 18, 2026
- Festival of Saint-Jean-Baptiste: Wednesday June 24, 2026
To this are also added the educational leave, which vary from one school establishment to another. Check on your school’s website to make sure you have the right dates.
Holiday leave
Festival leave will go from Monday, December 22, 2025 to Friday January 2, 2026 inclusive for the vast majority of the province’s school service centers.
Note, however, that several of them provide for an educational day on Monday, January 5, which will extend the rest for several lucky ones.
The Cégépiens will be the most spoiled while several will finish the fall session from December 22 or 23, 2025 and will not resume the lessons between January 19 and 22, 2026, except for some exceptions which will end earlier or start again later.
Universities, they should submit their latest exams between December 18 and 23, 2025. The return to school benches will be made from January 5 or 7, 2025, for many, although some continue the holidays until January 12, 2026.

Release week
For the 2025-2026 school year, the release week will be held between Monday March 2 and Friday March 6, 2026 in most primary and secondary schools in Quebec.
Again, check if your school is one of those who have chosen to place an educational day before or after, on February 26 and 27 and/or on March 9, 2026: you could extend your vacation with work.
Regarding CEGEPS and universities, a first week of break will take place during the fall session, from October 13 to 17, 2025, from October 21 to 24, 2025 or from October 27 to 31, 2025, depending on the establishment.
During the winter session, several college and university establishments will hold their week of release in concert with primary and secondary schools, from March 2 to 6, 2026, while others will shift it from March 9 to 13, 2026, or from March 16 to 20, 2026.
End of the school year
The school year will end on June 18, 22 or 23, 2026 for most of the province’s school service centers, although teachers must continue their work until the end of June.
In parallel, the CEGEPs will finish the winter session between May 21 and 27, 2026, while academics will hand over their last work between April 30, 2025, except in certain exceptions, until May 3.
