In 2024, end consumers suffered an average of 21 minutes of power cuts. This represents 0.34 power cut per inhabitant. The duration of the power cuts increased by three minutes compared to the previous year.
(Keystone-ATS) Switzerland is still part of European countries offering the best quality of supply, as the Electricity Commission (ELCOM), the independent public authority for surveillance in the field of electricity, said in its newsletter on Friday in its newsletter. Switzerland is tied with Denmark, Germany and Luxembourg.
In 2024, out of the 21 minutes of power outage per final consumer, eleven minutes were planned and ten were not. On the average of 0.34 power outage, 0.16 was planned, while 0.18 times, the current was cut by surprise.
The planned power cuts were used to maintain the installations. The causes of unplanned power cuts went from the natural event to human error, including operating factors such as short-circuit, overload or intervention of third parties as civil engineering work.
At the level of the count, thunderstorms, storms or animals interrupted the current for two minutes at the average end consumer during the year 2024. The short circuits represent four minutes of stopping while the human error and the influence of third parties each represented a minute. Finally, two minutes were due to other causes.
ELCOM calculates the quality of the supply of electricity on the basis of interruption ads of more than three minutes each year at the 91 largest network managers. The latter provide 87% of electricity in Switzerland.
