France sweats while the hot weather and the heat wave settle in a large part of the country. Météo-France extended the Orange heat wave to 53 departments this Saturday, or wholesale, the whole country south of a line from Northeast Brittany on Saturday, with an activation of alerts this Sunday noon.
The episode, qualified by meteorologists as requiring “particular vigilance” because of its duration, intensity and geographic extension, promises to be particularly trying.
Already very high night temperatures
This Saturday morning, the minimum temperatures noted in the areas already placed in orange alert (around Mediterranean and Rhône valley) oscillate between 18 and 24 ° C, even reaching 26 ° C in Perpignan and Avignon, noted Météo-France.
This Saturday afternoon, the thermometers should climb between 34 and 38 ° C in the departments concerned, with peaks at 40 ° C possible near the Mediterranean. And the following night promises to be just as painful, especially in the southeast quarter, where the minimums will not descend under 22 to 26 ° C.
A notable extension of alertness on Sunday
From Sunday noon, orange vigilance will be extended to new territories, extending in particular to Burgundy-Franche-Comté, Île-de-France, Center-Val-de-Loire, Sarthe, Mayenne, Maine-et-Loire, Vendée, Deux-Sèvres, Vienne, Haute-Vienne, Charente, Charente-Maritime and La Gironde.
The hardest to come
Sunday, temperatures will reach between 30 and 35 ° C in Île-de-France, and up to 38 or even 40 ° C in the south. The authorities recommend the greatest caution, especially for the elderly, young children and workers outdoors.
The heat wave should continue and reach its peak early next week, even if Météo-France believes that it is still too early to specify the date of the end of this episode.
