A Brompton teacher would have prompted a student to sexual contact

Mathieu Desroches, who is 26 years old and who is no longer employed by school, appeared on Thursday afternoon at the Sherbrooke courthouse before being released during legal proceedings. The police believe that the teacher could have made other victims.

Mathieu Desroches faces charges of computer lure and incitement to sexual contacts.

“At the beginning of July, a young girl, accompanied by her parents,” contacted the police service to report an event with her teacher at the end of the school year. The facts would be linked to computer lure and an incentive to sexual contacts, which occurred between April 30 and June 19, 2025, “said the spokesperson for the Sherbrooke Police Service, Benoit Pellerin, in a press release.

Desroches would therefore have had a relationship with the teenager under the age of 16 via social networks.

He would have communicated with the pupil “with the aim of facilitating certain offenses of sexual violence, including juvenile pornography and sexual contacts”, described the prosecutor to criminal and criminal proceedings on the file, Me Laïla Belgharras.

“Following the report, the Criminal Investigation Division took charge of the file. On Wednesday, our investigators, assisted by the POTROWERS OF SPS, went to the suspect’s residence, located in Repentigny, to arrest. He was apprehended and transported to the Sherbrooke police station, where he was questioned this Thursday. ”

The man will have to respect several conditions during his release. “It cannot be in the presence of minors, will not be able to go to the parks or to the school zones. He will not be able to keep a job that would put him in a situation of authority or confidence with minor age nor access social networks, “summarizes Me Belgharras.

Situation “taken seriously”

The director general of Bromptonville high school, François Tessier, assures that his team takes “this situation with the greatest seriousness” and that it collaborates “fully with the Sherbrooke police service”.

According to him, Desroches worked at this secondary school from January to June 2025. “The security and well-being of students remain an absolute priority for the ESB, which reiterates its commitment to offer a safe and respectful environment,” said Tessier in a press release.

People who could have been victims of Mathieu Desroches are invited to contact the Sherbrooke police service at 819 821-5555. “We invite anyone who has relevant information to transmit it directly to the police authorities,” added the director of the school.
