They have shared their adventures on the most remote roads in the world for five years. Matthew Peter Yeomans and Stacey Tourout, a couple of Canadian influencers followed by more than 201,000 subscribers on Youtube and 73,800 on Instagram, lost their life on August 7 in a off-road accident in British Columbia.
“It is with immense sadness that the families of Matthew Peter Yeomans and Stacey Tourout tell you their tragic loss […] They are together forever, as we knew they would still be, ”said the young woman’s mother on Monday on Facebook Colleen Tourout.
An accident “somewhere in the mountains”
Fiancated since June 2024, the two adventurers would have died in the “magnificent mountains of British Columbia that they loved so much” after having succumbed to their injuries aboard their all-terrain vehicle, she said.
The couple practiced “overlanding”, a form of exploration on difficult grounds with modified vehicles. They had traveled across Canada, America and New Zealand. It is unclear if they were filming for their chain at the time of the drama.
“These were the most difficult 20 hours of my life”
Colin Stuart, a nearby friend, was “by their side when it happened” and claims to have “done everything to save them”. “These were the most difficult 20 hours of my life. The most difficult decisions I have ever had to make. I’m sorry for all those affected. It is a great loss for the community of all-terrain and an even greater loss for the family and close friends of Matthew and Stacey, “he wrote,” thanking Kaslo Sar’s research and rescue team, and all those who tried to help them “.
According to Mark Jennings-Bate, head of Kaslo Sar, the accident occurred “somewhere in the mountains”. Thanks to a precise location, the team was able to dispatch a helicopter quickly. But upon their arrival, one of the victims no longer had a vital sign and the other died after his transfer to the hospital. The accident could be due to “loss of control”.
