A dentist from Colorado would have poisoned his wife to death in March 2023 following an adventure with another woman, according to the first arguments put forward by the crown when opening his trial on Tuesday.
James Craig was arrested a few hours after the death of his wife on March 19, 2023, following what the authorities qualified at the time of “odious, complex and calculated murder”.
Two days earlier, he had renewed his wife, Angela Craig, to the hospital for headache and dizziness.
Her condition quickly deteriorated and was declared in brain death, before being disconnected.
The first information revealed in the days which followed his arrest indicated that the man of 45 had obtained potassium cyanide two days before the death of his wife.
It was not until this week, however, more than two years later, that his trial is being informed, following numerous deadlines linked in particular to his judicial team which has constantly changed, reports CNN.
When the procedures opened on Tuesday morning procedures, the crown spread a large amount of documents to the effect that Mr. Craig would have poisoned his wife for reasons of money and a love affair.
He would have forced her to ingest a cyanide pill while she was in the hospital.
“He did not enter this room to save Angela’s life,” said the crown prosecutor Ryan Brackley. He did not enter this room to fight for his life or to support her. He entered this room to kill her, deliberately, to intentionally put an end to his life with a fatal dose of cyanide. ”
Mr. Brackley spoke of three events that led to the alleged murder of Angela Craig, the numerous visits of the latter in the hospital in the days having preceded her death, Mr. Craig’s relationship with a woman from Texas named Karin Cain as well as the purchase of poison by the accused.
The latter would have created an email account in his dentist office on February 27, 2023 that he would then have used to buy arsenic on Amazon after having searched “how many grams of pure arsenic would kill a human” on Google, always according to what CNN reports.
Two days later, his wife was admitted to the hospital, complaining of dizziness.
Text messages presented by the Crown evoke that Angela would have only consumed a protein drink before feeling unwell that morning.
On March 13, she was admitted for a second stay in a hospital center, the same day that a potassium cyanide order was delivered to the accused dentist’s office.
The crown also mentioned a series of “sexually explicit” messages that Mr. Craig and Ms. Cain would have exchanged while Angela was in the hospital center.
The defense, for his part, evokes suicide from Ms. Craig, alleging that the victim would have asked the accused to obtain potassium cyanide.
James Craig pleaded not guilty to the accusations that weigh against him and which includes that of first degree murder.
He remains held for the duration of the procedures, according to ABC News.
