A diplomatic momentum, a week after the announcement of France

Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa, after expressing himself at a high -level conference on the implementation of the two -state solution, at the United Nations in New York on July 28, 2025.

From Fort de Brégançon, to Bormes-les-Mimosas (Var), where the presidential couple has taken up residence since 1is August for his summer holidays, Emmanuel Macron can savor his diplomatic victory. He who was worked by doubt, worried by the reprisals formulated behind the scenes by Israel, was he not right, ultimately, to take the plunge? The president announced, on July 24, that he would recognize Palestine in September, during the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The promise, written in a letter addressed to the head of the Palestinian authority, Mahmoud Abbas, is described by the French president as “A moral duty” At a time when the Israeli government of Benyamin Netanyahu orchestrates a famine in the Gaza Strip and accelerates the annexation of the West Bank.

France, powerless to put an end to the conflict in Gaza, engaged after the massacres of October 7, 2023 committed by Hamas, presents its political initiative as a path to peace, supposed to revive the two -state solution that Mr. Nétanyahu and his far -right ministers reject. But this decision, not surprisingly, irritated Israel and displeased its nearest ally in the United States. France could fear being isolated on the international scene.
