A dog would have caused two fires by lighting the oven

Michelle Burkowski, a resident of Winnipeg, says her dog Buster is the source of two fires. The latter would have accidentally lit a Samsung oven which is the subject of a recall notification.

Michelle Burkowski has household appliances from the Samsung brand, including a cook she installed in May 2024. At first, she was satisfied with her purchases.

However, everything changed in May 2025. When she returned home that day, she saw smoke inside her house and found that there was a fire on the oven.

I ran to the kitchen to make sure the dog was safe and that was then that I noticed that there was a book on the stove. Of course, I shouldn’t have left it therethis Michelle Burkowski.

She managed to master the fire and it was then that she realized that her dog had jumped and had accidentally pressed on one of the buttons in front of the device.

The Winnipoise told this incident to friends, who told her that the Samsung company had created button cover for this kind of cook, in order to prevent that accidentally supports on it.

By researching, Michelle Burkowski noted that the oven has been the subject of a recall notification since August 2024.

According to the notification of recall published by Health Canada, there are risk of fire linked to certain electric ovens of the Samsung brand, because their buttons can accidentally be activated by humans or pets. It indicates that owners of these household appliances can activate notifications on their portable devices to find out when their ovens are on.

Michelle BURKOWSKI says that the cook suffered a second fire a month later. She says her dog accidentally lit the oven again.

The Winnipoise says that she had left dry products, such as cookies, inside the device.

I know people will judge me and say that I shouldn’t have done that … and I understand and I know that I shouldn’t have done itshe says, adding that she did it to prevent them from being accessible to her dog and cat. I was in shock and I would never have imagined that a dog could light the oven.

I love Buster and it’s a great dog, but it’s not the smartest dog there is. But I had never imagined that he could light the oven by jumping on it. If he can do, a child can also light it.

Michelle BURKOWSKI says she did not know that her oven was the subject of a recall notification. She does not know the reason why she was not alerted by the company and adds that she had not registered her household appliances with Samsung at the time of the purchase of the product.

250 fires and 40 ssignaled injured in the United States

More than 300 cases of ovens that have been accidentally lit by humans or pets were reported to the Samsung company. On these fires, 250 were reported, including 18 which caused significant material damage.

In addition, 40 cases of injuries have been reported to the American Commission for the supervision of consumer products.

Health Canada indicates that, at the end of July 2025, she received 110 reports from Samsung ovens which had been accidentally lit. Among them, there were 62 fires and 4 injured.

Samsung sold nearly 326,250 cooks in Canada between 2013 and August 2024.

A spokesperson for the international company refused to decide on the situation, but in the notification of a recall published in 2024, Samsung had recognized that some of his cooks could set fire, if flammable objects were posed above.

Earlier this year, Health Canada has published a reminder notification for certain electric ovens of the LG brand, as their pimples may be accidentally lit by humans or pets.
