The images are unbearable. Thursday, August 14, Arifuddin, a 53 -year -old man and father of four, bathed in the Bulete river, in the south of Indonesia, with relatives, when he was bitten in the leg by a crocodile, which made him scream in pain. The animal then pulled him under water, as shown in a video obtained by Viralpress and while the man tried to struggle, we see that the reptile does not relax his prey, that he holds by the legs.
Several witnesses of the scene then try to help Arifuddin, in vain. The animal began to flee with its prey in the mouth and it was only much later, 1.5 kilometers from the place of the attack, that the rescuers managed to recover the body of the family. After having transported him to muddy and shallow waters, the crocodile had finally released him to rest on a bank.
179 attacks in 2024
In March, the Associated Press indicated that crocodile attacks are increasingly frequent in Indonesia, a country which records the most incidents: 179 for the year 2024. An increase which they attributed to the increase in oil palm plantations in the region, which created more artificial sails and allowed creatures to get closer to the interior of the land.
