A first case detected in Belgium after the sale of contaminated cheeses

The Public Health Institute Sciensano confirmed a first case of bacteria infection on Wednesday Listeria monocytogenes in Belgium. This case occurs after marketing in the country of cheeses produced in France and suspected of being contaminated.

In France, two people have already died following this contamination, which concerns several varieties of cheeses (camemberts, goat cheeses, gorgonzolas, bries) distributed in particular at Leclerc, Auchan or Carrefour. The French authorities carried out a wide recall of products earlier this week.

The enlarged recall

In Belgium, Colruyt recalled Tuesday, in agreement with the Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (AFSCA), two products:

  • Camembert Everyday
  • Pre -flower goat log

Wednesday, AFSCA expanded the recall to two other references:

  • Camembert Father Alexandre (240 g)
  • Camembert of old porch character (250 g)

The agency asks consumers to bring these cheeses to the point of sale and not to consume them. It remains in contact with the French authorities via the European rapid alert system (RASFF) and calls for particular vigilance, especially among people who have stayed recently in France.

Infection at Listeria monocytogenes Can be dangerous for young children, pregnant women, immunocompromised people and the elderly.
