A first in France, where the “INCEL” threat is emerging

This is a first in France. Never, so far, French justice has had a man under investigation for an exclusively masculinist inspiration project, known as “incel” (contraction of the expression involuntary celibate, « involuntary single ”). An 18-year-old high school student was arrested in Saint-Etienne and indicted on Tuesday 1is July, for association of terrorist criminals for the preparation of one or more crimes of involvement for people. He was incarcerated at the end of his hearing before a liberty judge on Tuesday evening at the Paris court, reported the France-Presse agency (AFP).

Timoty G. had been arrested on Friday by police from the Directorate General of Internal Security (DGSI), the service devoted to the fight against terrorism in France. At the time of his arrest, near the public high school he frequented, the young man wore two knives in his bag. He did not hide his membership in the “Incel” theses and his assiduous consultation of videos of masculinist influencers, especially on the Tiktok social network.

This is the first referral to the National Anti -terrorist Prosecutor’s Office (PNAT) for facts exclusively linked to the “INCEL” ideology. This ideology, born in North America, postulates that young white men are victims, in their quest for a companion up to their expectations, the liberation of women and the competition of immigrants. These misogynist and racist theses are notably worn by British influencer Andrew Tate, followed by 11 million people and who has escaped proceedings for human beings and rape in Romania following pressures from the Trump administration on Bucharest. The “INCEL” movement also glorifies the terrorist mass killers of ultra -right like the Australian Brendon Tarrant and the Norwegian Anders Breivik. The Netflix series Adolescencebroadcast in the spring and which was very successful, highlighted the toxic and misogynous influences to which young men are online.
