A giant bee will buzz in the heart of Chaux-de-Fonds
The Place des Lilas is preparing to experience a complete metamorphosis with a playful concept around bees. A project chosen with children’s participation.
La Chaux-de-Fonds is launching the transformation of the Place des Lilas with a new game project on the theme of bees. The work will start on August 11 to end in November, as the municipality announces in a statement published this Thursday.
This game square, developed over forty years ago, occupies a strategic position between market place, the Place des Brigades-Internationals and the Promenade des Six-pompes. Faced with the obsolescence of the facilities, the municipal council organized a competition of ideas by involving children and regular users. The project “At the heart of the hive”, proposed by the Realsport company, has been selected.
An inclusive play area on the theme of bees
The new concept provides for a central structure in the form of a giant bee with roping games for the older ones. The youngest will have swings, games on springs and a “hive” to stimulate their imagination. An inclusive swing will complete the whole. The floor will be completely redone with flexible coatings and wood chips to guarantee safety and comfort.
Access to the square will be slightly modified to strengthen children’s safety. Part of the vegetation damaged by the storm will be renewed, but the three emblematic chestnut trees in the northern sector will be preserved.
The site will start with the slaughter of the trees concerned and the dismantling of the old installations. The end of the work is scheduled for early November, subject to favorable weather conditions for the installation of flexible soils. This renovation is part of the urban transformation dynamics of Chaux-de-Fonds, which has been pursuing the requalification of its public spaces for several years to strengthen the attractiveness of the city center and promote social ties.
