A local elected official photographed in briefs with a Nazi flag apologizes

A Belgian local elected official apologized this Friday, August 1 after the broadcast of a photo on social networks showing him in underwear, wrapped in a Nazi flag, regretting a “coarse error” during an “too watered” evening.

“It is absolutely not trivial to end up with a Nazi flag on your back,” the 26 -year -old elected official told AFP, Germain Dalne, a municipal councilor in the Belgian city of Nivelles. He confirmed the authenticity of the photo revealed by the Belgian media the future and widely relayed on social networks showing him from back, in blue underwear, a Nazi flag on his back.

“Gross error” of youth

“During the evening, far too watered, I got hazed like others,” said the elected official. “I found myself in pants and I was put the flag on my back”. This municipal opposition councilor, from the French -speaking Liberal Party (MR), regretted “a gross error” of youth, without any “political or ideological connotation”.

In a press release, the centrist party engaged, in power in Nivelles, denounced a “deeply shocking and inadmissible” gesture. “No excuse – neither the age, the context, nor the state of drunkenness – can trivialize the use of a symbol so heavy with meaning,” reacted the local antenna of this training, while calling not to “transform public debate into a permanent lynching court”.
