A man in his forties lost his life in a fire caused by a cook who ravaged his mobile house in Saint-Hubert.
“The fire started in the middle of the night, the authorities told me that the oven circle had remained on,” reports Shashi Kiran Rawal, the owner of the land where the mobile house was soaring on June 23.
The resident, Carl Laliberté, 48, lost his life in a fire caused by a “cooking fire”, confirmed the spokesperson for the police service in the city of Longueuil (SPAL) Jacqueline Pierre. The emergency services were contacted around 7:20 am on Monday.
“There is more chance that it is accidental that it is criminal, but we are not yet ready to dismiss this possibility,” said the agent Pierre.
Another man and a woman were also inside the Saint-Hubert residence, in the Agglomeration of Longueuil. Fortunately, they survived the impressive Broises, which caused a whole concussion in the neighborhood.
“There were so high flames that they burned the leaves of a tree which is very close to my courtyard. My husband used the garden watering hose to lend a hand to firefighters, ”said Rania, a neighbor of the deceased who did not want to give her family name.
Jean-Pierre Levac, 81, who lives near the burned mobile house is lucky to have been spared. “The flames made at least five feet, my shed could have burn up,” recalls the one who had to evacuate his home for three hours on Monday morning.
Carl Laliberté often did him a service by cutting his lawn, he explains, convinced that his neighbor had no smoke detector.
“It was so calcined that we had to search to find out if there was one,” said the Pierre agent, without confirming if it was.
