A new test makes it possible to identify the women most affected by the risk of miscarriage

In the United Kingdom, researchers have made a discovery to explain the recurrence of false layers in some women. These works have opened the way to the development of a test giving the opportunity to identify potentially the most at risk. Ultimately, new treatment to prevent these kinds of pregnancy interruptions may be born.

The key to the problem: the endometrium

As a reminder, the notion of miscarriage corresponds to a Spontaneous pregnancy stop Before the 22nd week of amenorrhea, date of viability of the fetus – about 5 months. However, this unhappy phenomenon quite often returns to the scientific press. In 2019, an American study demonstrated that consumption of alcohol (even moderate) could promote the risk of miscarriage. In 2024, work carried out in China established a close link between false layers and air pollution.

And if it was possible to identify the most risky women as to the appearance of a miscarriage? A team of researchers from the University of Warwick (United Kingdom) precisely developed a test allowing this, as confirmed by a publication in the journal Science Advances on June 25, 2025. As part of their work, the authors practiced

Recall that the endometrium is none other than the mucous mesh lining the inside of the uterusthe latter thickening just before ovulation, during each menstrual cycle. In case of non -fertilization of the egg, the endometrium is eliminated. Otherwise, it receives the embryo and helps to develop the placenta throughout pregnancy.

Avoid recurrence in the most concerned women

British researchers have discovered that an abnormal process in the so -called “decidual” reaction of endometrial transformation could explain why some women undergo successive false layers. In the event that this reaction is deregulated or activated incompletelythe environment becomes unstable. However, if this same environment still allows the establishment of the embryo, the risk of bleeding and miscarriage increases. Thus, the results show that the erosion of the decidual reaction after a first miscarriage Increases the risk of recurrence And this, regardless of the age of the woman.

“The frequency of one of the following two events – abnormal embryo or abnormal decidual reaction – occurring on hundreds of menstrual cycles determines the probability of miscarriage in each woman. It is important to note that we now have the tools necessary to detect the risk of avoidable miscarriage and assess the treatments that improve the uterine lining before pregnancy. »»can we read in a press release relating to the study.

These observations therefore allowed experts to develop a test allowing to measure the signs of a normal (or defective) reaction in the endometrium. Very promising, this work should give the possibility of develop preventive treatments In order to avoid future false layers in women subject to recurrence.
