A potential heat wave on our doors: Montrealers enjoy their holidays despite the overwhelming humidity

The hot and humid days follow one another in the Quebec metropolis, which did not prevent citizens and tourists from enjoying their city in full holidays of construction on Thursday.

The mercury should still be around 30 degrees Celsius on Friday, the day after a day when the wind was saving for Montrealers, struggling with a humidx factor surrounding the 40 degrees.

According to André Monette de MétéoMédia, it is not impossible for a heat wave to ramp in the city from Saturday.

“It should be hot, but dry on Saturday and humidity will come back from Sunday,” he says. It is possible that we reach 30 degrees from Saturday to Monday, but it would not be an exceptional heat wave. ”

Nothing to discourage tourists

Despite the overwhelming humidity, tourists were there at the Saint-Joseph Oratory on Thursday, taking advantage of the breeze blowing on this establishment at altitude.

Françoise GARABED, tourist guide in Montreal, assures that there have been any worse days on the heat level. Nevertheless, she puts on the air conditioning of her van and the outside stops to refresh her troop. “At the top of the Saint-Joseph Oratory, for example, there is more wind and it’s cooler,” she says.

“With the wind, it’s going,” says Stéphanie Chanvillard, a French tourist determined to visit the region despite the temperature. It is warmer with us in summer. ”

The municipal swimming pool of the Sir-Wilfrid-Laurier park, in the borough of Plateau-Mont-Royal, was the host of several long queues since the start of the summer. The atmosphere was more relaxed on Thursday, while residents of the neighborhood had all the space necessary to cool off.

“When I came 15 days ago, you only had one square meter to swim,” says Nino Aste, 29, resident of the plateau. In my apartment, there is no air that comes in. I often cannot open my windows because of the work in front of my house, so I come here. ”

Living in the neighborhood for a long time, Mercedes Alvarez, 65, recently installed a heat pump system at home because of repeated heat waves and the behavior of passers -by around her house.

“It’s increasingly noisy in the evening on weekdays,” she is sorry. When you sleep the open windows, you are exposed to all kinds of people who have no conscience in relation to the noise. ”

While some were looking for splashes, others opted for the parasols and the sand of the clock beach. “We cool off here. I’m not hot. There is a lot of wind, ”rejoices Josée Lague, a regular in the area.
