Canada has waited too long to reform its supply management and may now have to do so according to the criteria of Donald Trump, fears the specialist in the food industry at Dalhousie University, Sylvain Charlebois.

Last June, the Carney government adopted a motion from the Quebec Bloc to protect the management of the offer that affects several agricultural products, including milk.
“I don’t think the law disturbs Mr. Trump. It is as if the law does not exist. And then there is panic, we feel that there is panic in Canada because we know very well that the law cannot necessarily protect the management of offers as the spirit of the law suggests, “said Charlebois in an interview with LCN.
“What worries me is that I have been believing that the management of tenders must be reformed […] What is currently happening is that Mr. Trump pushes Canada to review the management of the offer [avec] His own terms and not to us, ”he added.
Offer management remains a very important system for Quebec and Canadian agricultural producers, says Sylvain Charlebois.
