INTERVIEW -Faced with the fall of the birth rate, the High Commissioner for Children confirms the establishment of a birth leave in 2026 and reserves the right to attack the establishments offering “no kids” offers.
The former minister, a member of the Modem, was appointed Haute-Commissioner for Children last March.
Le Figaro. – for the first time since 1945, France has just recorded more deaths than births over twelve consecutive months . However, according to a study by Fondapol, the desire for a child remains very strong in young adults. How to explain such a contrast?
Sarah El Haïry. – It is not only a statistical data, but an alarm signal that deeply shakes up what we are. A society that no longer makes children is a society that doubts itself, which is pointing out and lets its destiny die out slowly. However, the desire for a child is there, it exists. Now, how to make it happen? Founding a family remains a very personal decision. Our political responsibility is to give families the means to remove all the brakes to the birth rate, whether direct or indirect, because the demographic question is a question of sovereignty
