“A strike will start on Monday at midnight on Monday” in combat aircraft manufacturing factories

The company’s workers’ union rejected the contract proposed by Boeing, which notably provided for an increase in wages of 40%. An “emergency plan” was implemented by the group.

The members of a workers’ union who assemble the Boeing hunting planes in Missouri and Illinois will go on strike on Monday, after having again rejected the revised proposal for a new business contract on Sunday. “About 3,200 highly qualified members (…) voted on Sunday August 3, 2025 to reject a contract” With Boeing, IAM said (International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers) in a press release. “A strike will start at midnight on Monday August 4”added the union.

“The members of section 837 of IAM expressed themselves loud and clear: they deserve a contract which reflects their skills, their dedication and the essential role they play in the defense of our nation”underlined Tom Boelling, a union representative, quoted in the press release. “Our union is based on democracy, and our members have the right to demand a contract that meets their contributions”added Brian Bryant on Sunday, the president of the organization.

The group says “ready to face”

Boeing’s initial proposal, rejected a week earlier, included an increase in wages of 20% over four years and more leave. The new offer provided for a 40%increase, according to Boeing. The union warned that if no agreement was reached within seven days, the IAM section 837 could trigger a strike.

“We are disappointed that our employees have rejected an offer which provided an average wage increase of 40% and which resolved their main concern concerning flexible working hours”reacted Dan Gillian, vice-president of Boeing Air Dominance and pattern of the Saint-Louis site. In a declaration communicated to AFP, he indicated that the group was “Ready to face a strike”and that a “Emergency plan” had been implemented to ensure that the “Non -striker staff can continue to attend” Boeing customers.

Boeing is going through a deep crisis since last year due to the quality problems of its production and a strike of more than fifty days which has already paralyzed its two main factories. IAM represents approximately 600,000 active and retired members in the aerospace, defense, airlines, shipbuilding, railway, transport, health, automotive and other industries in the United States and Canada.
