A third case of chikungunya, contracted locally, was confirmed in Porticcio, commune of Grosseto-Pugna, in Corse-du-Sud. According to the Regional Health Agency (ARS) in Corsica, the infected person has no travel history in the tropical zone, which indicates a local transmission of the virus, by tiger mosquito bite. “The start date of the symptoms and the residential area of the infected person, close to the first two indigenous cases detected last week, suggest that it is the same transmission episode”, said the ARS in a press release.
Faced with this episode, the Corsican Regional Health Agency (ARS) has strengthened its surveillance system. In coordination with Public Health France France and the Corsican Community Anti-Ecourtorial Watch Service, several actions are underway: an epidemiological survey, the identification of potential exposure places, targeted demospects, neighborhood investigations, as well as information from health professionals. In a press release, the agency calls for vigilance: “This new case calls for vigilance and the mobilization of all. It is also important to cooperate with services to facilitate the work of teams working in the sector. »»
Contain propagation
The health authorities recall that the presence of the tiger mosquito is now well installed on the island. The chikungunya virus can be transmitted by a single infected mosquito bite, which justifies the immediate trigger for control procedures around detected cases. Beyond occasional interventions, the ARS insists on the importance of prevention gestures on an individual scale. It is a question of limiting contacts with mosquitoes (repellents, long clothes, mosquito nets) but also of reducing their proliferation by eliminating the stagnant water points in the gardens and surroundings of the dwellings. In a context of summer heat and high density of the vector mosquito, the ARS insists: “Prevention gestures should not be reserved for demoustication periods. They must become reflexes for all, throughout the summer season. »»
