Particular thunderstorms struck several regions of Quebec on Monday, June 23. Well, the fourth tornado of the year, in Quebec soil, has just been confirmed! See where.
Really violent thunderstorms
Several people who underlined the Quebec National Day feared for their security on June 23, when time was particularly violent, especially on the side of the Capitale-Nationale and Chaudière-Appalaches. Moreover, the traditional major musical spectacle planned for the occasion on the plains of Abraham was canceled even before the first note, due to dangerous weather conditions.
Images of people present in many sectors near the Capitale-Nationale and Chaudière-Appalaches quickly circulated. The violence of the wind and the intensity of the rain, as well as the damage observed in certain trees and structures, could suggest that a tornado had actually targeted a sector of these regions of Quebec.
A fourth tornado
Confirmation has just been made: there was indeed a tornado in Saint-Raphaël, in the Bellechasse sector (boiler-appalaches). It was around 9:10 p.m. on June 23, that this fourth tornado of the year in Quebec has manifested itself. Its trajectory was 5.97 km and its damage corridor extended to 550 m.
Moreover, damage to several farm buildings in the surroundings and trees indicate a tornado of force EF0. At the time of events, the winds were blowing at around 130 km/h.
