This weekend, a farmer installed a turnstile with a paid barrier on an Alpine meadow near Seceda in the Grödnertal. This is the first time that we have to pay an entry right on a highly appreciated hiking trail in the southern Tyrol. This is what “Rai News” reports.
The hikers had to pay five euros to be able to continue on the path. American and Chinese tourists paid for a photo, others have turned around.
Carlo Alberto Zanella, the chief of the Italian Alpine Club Cai, published a photo of the hiking trail closed on Facebook. The trail concerned is on a private plot 50 meters long on the seceda, one of the most photographed points of view of the southern Tyrol with views of the summits of the Geisler.
Each day, up to 4000 tourists take the cable car to go to the pasture, take a few steps and then turn around, explains Ivan Runggaldier, president of the Val Gardena section of Cai.
“A protest action”
The farmer explains to different media that the turnstile was a protest action. He was only in service on Saturday. “Everyone simply goes by leaving waste, or by fire. It’s simply scandalous, “said the farmer.
He wanted to draw attention to the destruction of his pasture by disrespectful behavior.
The mayor of the commune of St. Christina confirmed that the turnstile had been installed without authorization. Police and other authorities were seized to check if such a barrier was authorized. Legal clarification has not yet taken place.
“We also also understand the owner of the land and the property right. But the fact that we are now starting to close trails to ask for money somewhere can obviously not be the solution, “said the Alpin club from Southern Tyrol to” Rai News “.
