After calling for his resignation, Trump meets Intel boss and … applaud his “incredible success” (but still wants him to leave)

Donald Trump announced Monday August 11, having had a “very interesting” meeting with Lip-Bu Tan, the boss of the American semiconductor and Intel processors, a few days after calling for his resignation because of accusations on his links with China.

This is called a reversal of situation. Donald Trump announced Monday August 11, having had a “very interesting” meeting with Lip-Bu Tan, the boss of the American company of semiconductors and Intel processors … a few days after calling for his resignation because of accusations on his links with China.

“I met Mr. Lip-Bu Tan, with the Minister of Commerce Howard Lutnick and the Minister of Finance Scott Bessent. The meeting was very interesting,” said the American president on his social social platform, also greeting “the incredible success” and “ascent” of the Intel leader.

Conflict of interest

The head of state assured Thursday August 7, still on his network, that the director general “faces a serious conflict of interest” and should therefore “resign immediately”. The Senator of Arkansas (Center) Tom Cotton had just accused Lip-Bu Tan of having remained involved in companies which “have links with the Chinese Communist Party and the People’s Liberation Army”, in a letter to the president of the Californian group, Frank Yeary.

Washington and Beijing are engaged in an intense trade war and in the race for artificial intelligence (AI), which notably requires advanced flea. The design of semiconductors and the most advanced AI models is concentrated in the United States, while the production of components mainly takes place in Asia.

American born in Malaysia, Lip-Bu Tan, 65, took the head of Intel in mid-March, while the company, formerly a market leader, tries to catch up in AI compared to its now dominant competitors, Nvidia in mind.

“I want to be absolutely clear: in addition to 40 years in the sector, I have established relationships around the world and (…) I have always worked in compliance with the most strict legal and ethical standards”, defended the boss on Thursday in a message to the Employees of Intel made public by the company.

He also assured that he “fully shares the president’s commitment to promote the national and economic security of the United States”, insisting on his “love” for America and for Intel.

Discussions planned with Trump’s office

“Mr. Tan and the members of my cabinet will spend time together and make suggestions next week,” said Donald Trump on Monday.

Intel, for its part, mentioned “a frank and constructive exchange” between the two men on the commitment of the company “to strengthen the technological and industrial leadership of the United States”, in a brief press release.

“We salute the president’s assertive leadership to advance these essential priorities and we are delighted to work closely with him and his administration,” continued the group.
