Almost 4,000 km in 24 hours for this Chinese electric car which broke the Xiaomi record

Barely unveiled, the new Xpeng P7 broke a endurance record, traveling no less than 3,961 kilometers in 24 hours. The Chinese electric car then did better than the Xiaomi SU7, which achieved a similar performance a few weeks earlier.

Car manufacturers have a goal: to do better than their competitors. And this on all possible aspects, whether price or autonomy. Many of them have been trying to break records in this area, and this for many years. And today, it’s Xpeng’s turn to be talked about.

A new record for the Chinese brand

The firm has just lifted the veil on its new creation, the P7, unveiled at the beginning of August. The latter was reworked compared to the previous version, and especially on one point: aerodynamics. It benefits from 25 optimizations to improve the penetration into the air. It has autonomy between 702 and 820 kilometers depending on the Chinese CLTC cycle. Which would give around 600 to 700 km with European approval WLTP.

And now the manufacturer has decided to prove that these figures are not wind. This is how he just announced on his Weibo page that he broke an endurance record. The electric sedan has traveled no less than 3,961 kilometers in 24 hours August 13. It becomes the most enduring electric car on this test, ahead of the Xiaomi SU7. The latter had also been put to the test a few weeks earlier, and she had managed to achieve 3,944 kilometers.

Which is equivalent to a difference inonly about 17 kilometers. It is not huge, but sufficient for Xpeng to take the lead in the ranking. However, the manufacturer does not yet give details on how this performance has been achieved. We only know that this endurance test “ implied Continuous driving at high speed and a fast load, the vehicle running without interruption during the rotations of the drivers ». But no detail was given on the car.

For information, The Xiaomi SU7 had driven at around 210 km/h on average and made 30 recharges of 10 to 12 minutes each. The latter’s test had been certified by the Chinese Center for Technology and Automobile Research (Catarc). Besides, it is A discussion between the boss of Xiaomi and Xpeng Who pushed the latter to also want to achieve a similar performance. The first, Lei Jun, had indeed suggested a 24 -hour endurance test for high performance electric vehicles.

A demanding test

The businessman had explained that This test was particularly difficult For several reasons. First, it is necessary to maintain very high speeds, more than 210 km/h, and obtain a large autonomy in a single load. Then the car must be capable of collecting very fast loads. And above all, that it maintains excellent thermal management to withstand dozens of fast-load load-discharge cycles over 24 hours. The challenge seems to have been successful for the Xpeng P7.

The latter recharges at 5C thanks to its 800 volts platform and it is able to recover 525 kilometers in just 10 minutes. For the record, it achieves 0 to 100 km/h in less than three seconds and it reaches a maximum speed of 230 km/h. Previously, Mercedes held the record for the greatest distance traveled by electric car with its CLA. The latter had managed to ride on 3,717 kilometers in 24 hours.

In a single load, the record is held by the Chevrolet Silverado EV Max Range Work Truck, which had traveled no less than 1,704 kilometers. The electric pick-up then had outdated the Lucid Airwhich had managed to roll about 1,200 kilometers in one go during a previous test. However, the two were not carried out under the same conditions, and those of General Motors were a little more favorable than those for the electric sedan.
