The illicit caravan camp which squatted the Gujan-Mestras sports complex was evacuated by the police on Monday. The town hall believes that this rapid intervention was necessary and justified.
Expelled a week after their arrival. The more than 150 caravans which had invaded the Gujan-Mestras sports complex by cutting the fee with the grinder on July 27 were evacuated by the police on Monday. 160 gendarmes, five towels and drones were mobilized by the Gironde prefecture to carry out this operation. “It was an impressive seat. The discussion quickly became very tense. But the sub-prefect and the gendarmerie were very firm. With traveling people, the balance of power is essential ”describes Xavier Paris, the first deputy of the town.
For the latter, this rapid reaction of state services was necessary and justified. After a quarter of an hour reflection, the community of Travelers decided to evacuate the premises and to leave, although dissatisfied, in the direction of the Grand Passage of Mérignac. Apart from an abandoned dishwasher in a ditch, the surrounding infrastructure was not degraded and the meadow had been cleaned when they left.
“Now that they have gone, it will cost us money. We will have to repair the fences and further improve the security of the site. The legal proceedings are also undergoing lessons: Bernard Collinet, the security assistant filed a complaint following his assault, while the town hall started the legal actions necessary to obtain reparation for the break -in committed by traveling people and the destruction of the fences of the sports complex.
