It took an impressive deployment of police forces, this morning on Monday, August 4 in the morning, and an audience before the administrative court in recent days, to be able to dislodge a group of traveling people who had been illegally installed on the Chante-Cigale sports complex of Gujan-Mestras on Sunday July 27 in the evening. So a week ago, 150 caravans had entered this municipal enclosure used by athletes and walkers, by cutting a protective fence at the UAGM Athletics premises.
As of Monday, July 28, the prefect of Gironde was reactive and signed a prefectural decree bringing this group to leave the premises within 48 hours. He was challenged before the administrative court by traveling people, but the magistrates quickly issued a decision last week to approve this decree. It is true that the agglomeration community of the southern basin (Cobas) respects the law by providing large -passing areas, as well as the community of agglomeration of the North Basin (Coban) and that of the Val de l’Eyre.
Once the court decision has been rendered, the state has left a new period of 48 hours to the caravans to evacuate the premises. Sunday evening August 3, traveling people were always installed there. The authorities therefore deployed important forces on Monday, August 4, made up of gendarmes from the Compagnie d’Arcachon, many mobile gendarmes, and municipal police from Gujan-Mestras. On site, the gendarmerie officers, the sub-prefect Jean-Louis Amat, and the first assistant of Gujan-Mestras Xavier Paris asked the group to leave.

Complaints
The discussion was first “stormy and tense, but they ended up agreeing to leave when they saw that they had no choice,” said Xavier Paris who welcomed this outcome and “thanked” the prefecture for his reactivity and the gendarmes for their intervention.
From 11 a.m. on Monday, the first caravans began to leave Cigale, escorted throughout the journey to the direct route by the police. This group of traveling people did not wish to go to the paying reception area of Andernos, and said they wanted to go to Mérignac.
“A week after its illegal occupation, the Chante-Cigale site is now released”
“A week after its illegal occupation, the Chante-Cigale site is now released. Last year, the same group remained 15 days, ”said Xavier Paris. “The city has shown firmness to put an end to this intolerable situation,” also reacted the elected Gujana and president of UAGM Athletics Jean-Jacques Germaneau.
Once the last caravan left, it will remain in the municipality to see the possible damage caused by this one -week camp. The city of Gujan-Mestras has in any case filed a complaint for degradation (the cutting-cutting), illegal occupation of the public domain and illegal connections on the electrical network and that of drinking water. “There is also a complaint for attacking an elected municipal official who wanted to intervene on their arrival and was injured,” said Gujan’s first assistant.
