A fake children accused of having defrauded families everywhere in Canada

A man pretending to be a children’s guardian trapped families from one end of the country with fraud by check for almost a year.

According to Toronto police, between October 2024 and August 2025, a man presenting himself under the name of “Ashley Turnbull” was hired several times for guard contracts.

Investigators explain that he sent the victims of checks to cash, then asking them to return part of the funds to him, supposedly to buy equipment and supplies for children.

But once deposited and transferred, the checks proved to be fraudulent, leaving the victims with a debited account.

The money has never been recovered, specify the authorities.

A survey of the 32 fraud unite Division revealed that the alleged crook had targeted other victims across Canada.

The suspect was identified as Kim Magnet, 31, living in Hamilton.

Arrested on August 8, he is accused of more than 20 chiefs, seven for which for fraud of less than $ 5,000.

He must appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Toronto on 1is October 2025.

The police invite anyone with information to contact them, even anonymously.
